Grapes are a fruit that grows on a vining plant in bunches and botanically are classed as berries as they contain seeds. Small and oval shaped they are sold on the vine and grown worldwide. There are many varieties of grape and are usually categorised into grapes for dehydrating, wine grapes and table grapes.

Table grapes are those that we commonly eat, they are firm with a thin skin that gives the fruit a crunch. The skin of a grape has a rubbery texture and can be red, white, green and purple, all of which have different tastes, but the flesh remains a pale yellowish green and translucent.

Red and purple grapes are the sweeter table grapes. Red grapes have a high sugar content with low acidity, making them sugary. While purple grapes are sweet with a deep plummy flavour and are often used for jams.

White grapes have a light, crisp flavour and are more sharp and green grapes are a lighter almost floral flavour. They’re still sweet, but can often taste citric as the skin can provide a tartness
