Wild Garlic

Did you know that Wild Garlic is a member of the Chive family & is also known as Ramsons, Buckram & Bear's Garlic ?

The season is a short one, starting in France at the end of February & appearing in Southern England a week later. We don’t normally see Wild Garlic in the North of England until the second week of March. The season continues until the end of May. The Wild Garlic Flowers start around the beginning of April and last until early June.

Wild Garlic leaves are versatile & can be used raw or cooked. Did you know that the bulbs & flowers are also edible? We have also heard that it can make a great variation to pesto (by replacing the basil with Wild Garlic). The taste/ flavour of Wild garlic is not as intense as traditional garlic.

Wild Garlic is also used to wrap some varieties of cheese as both a method of preservation & also to flavour the cheese. Lynher Dairies who produce Cornish Yarg, have also made a ‘Wild Garlic Yarg’, (same recipe as the Cornish Yarg but the cheese is wrapped in Ramson leaves instead of nettles).

It is vitally important that the source of the product is a trusted one. We therefore source ours through our Yorkshire Forager & our herb supplier in Norfolk.
