Jackfruit Sloppy Joe

Prep & Cooking Time: 40 minutes  Servings: Approx 4 portions


 Ingredients 

  • 1 x 454g tin young green jackfruit
  • 1 L Essential Savoury Gravy (made according to the instructions on the tub)
  • 1 tbsp. Tomato Puree
  • 1 onion brunoise
  • 1 clove garlic crushed
  • 1 green pepper diced
  • Frenchy’s mustard
  • 1 tbsp. tomato ketchup
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Hot sauce to taste (optional)
  • Vegan Sliced Smoked Gouda

Instructions

  1. In a large sauce pan using veg oil, sweat the onions and garlic without colour, add the peppers, jackfruit. Add the onion powder, garlic powder and smoked paprika.
  2. Add the tomato puree and ketchup, then add the gravy and cook on a simmer for 30 minutes. Use a little water if it looks like it is going to be too dry. Be careful not to let it stick so stir regularly
  3. Using a masher break up the jack fruit, finish with the Frenchy’s mustard & hot sauce if you’d like it to be extra spicy. Correct the seasoning
  4. Serve in a vegan bun with melted cheese over it Sloppy Joe style.
