Red onion is now moving to Egyptian supply which will take us through until mid-August when the European harvest starts. New season brown/yellow cooking onion will start in mid-July. Spanish onion sizes are small, and crops are running very late as they cannot get the skins to set given the wet conditions. Chilean imports are being extended to bridge the gap until crops recover.
We’re expecting to move into imported crop in late June for 6 weeks when the new UK crop will commence.
Planting of new season UK crop took place slightly earlier than usual due to the dry weather conditions. However, without some significant rain we could be looking at a difficult season ahead. With irrigation and warm temperatures, the crops are well established. Potatoes now need to be kept in cool conditions to avoid any sprouting that can be seen if they are kept ambient/warm.
Over wintered continues through June, new season summer crop is coming along well and is expected to start in July.
