Eggs & Dairy Update

05 March 2018

Eggs still remain expensive as we have mentioned previously, and are expected to remain high until mid to late summer.

Surprisingly the demand for Cream has been very high with prices starting to increase closer to the high levels experienced pre-Christmas. This is a big concern if it continues going into Easter trade.

On a more positive note, Milk prices look to be stabilising, with Milk volumes increasing and a lot coming into the marketplace from Germany, which has an effect on Emmental, Mozzarella & Gouda prices.

Hopefully as we go towards Spring, Block Cheddar prices should be easing back with the extra Milk production – there is a shortage of Mature Cheddars currently, which has firmed the prices up slightly.

Butter demand has increased with more customers using it as a staple ingredient in the kitchen rather than using butter substitutes. Prices are likely to increase for April so look at buying ahead to save money.
